Football field at Indian Park?

Montoursville Borough Council Monday night gave preliminary approval to develop a plan for a football field in Indian Park.

Mark Verrico, field commissioner of the Montoursville Junior Athletic Association, said the group is eyeing a parcel near the former public swimming pool.

He noted that the borough's recreation board agreed the site would be a good spot for a field.

Verrico said more than 200 children are involved with the youth organization.

Earlier this year, council voted to suspend play by softball teams in the park after this year.

Verrico, however, noted that the piece of land the youth league is looking at is located not near the ball fields but in an "under-utilized" part of the park.
