Cheung Chau Bun Festival. Hong Kong

saw some on cabel recently, what are, if any, the meanings of the different faces and colors, the "strange" way of moving, can you give me a little background or history?

There are a lot of information I have to type here if I have to answer your question in full.., I prefer to find some websites for your reference, and I would add a bit of explanation to make it easier for you to understand the art of Chinese opera

The long Chinese opera

The dramatic escape of Chen Guangcheng, the blind Chinese lawyer who was held in his house illegally for 19 months even after he was released from prison, upset Beijing’s and Washington’s best-laid plans for the strategic and economic dialogue held last week. How China responded was instructive, particularly after Chen sought the help of the American embassy. How the US handled the issue will be a case study in international relations seminars for years to come.

But this, we know: in a normal country, people who have served out their jail term are free to lead normal lives and aren’t placed under house arrest. In a normal country, the lawyer escaping from his illegal detention would turn to his own authorities, and not foreigners, for help. In a normal country, those who helped the lawyer escape wouldn’t disappear.

In Hong Kong, I would like to participate in the face painting and dress up for the Chinese Opera, any ideas on how I can do this? Not perform of course, just go through what they do.

you can either go to the opear or buy the Chinese opera DVD. but they mostly offer in English. i don't even know if they have the English version of it. the best way is you can ask your frined to coem with you, so they can translate some for you.
