Given near fluency in Chinese kanji, how much Japanese would you have after learning katakana & hiragana?

That is, how much overlap is there between Chinese Hanzi and Japanese Kanji? I gather that the katakana and hiragana would allow me to enunciate any word and thus learn to read as I learn to speak, almost like an alphabetic language.


you should just realize, the words in Chinese and Japanese are different...
so it's not Hanzi or Kanji, they are the words...

What is the easiest way to learn Japanese/Chinese kanji characters?

I am studying Japanese however I really struggle with the kanji. KANJI really does slow my learning process down. I have a visual memory and usually writing in a language helps me remember sentence structure. But I just struggle with the Japanese kanji.


A lot of people i know make stories for every kanji, which is a good idea, but if your not very creative like me, i just find that using flashcards, consistently practising everyday, you should eventualy get the hang of it.
